Jest chorobą ośrodkowego układu nerwowego przejawiającą się spowolnieniem ruchowym, drżeniem kończyn i sztywnością mięśni. Choroba ta częściej dosięga mężczyzn, niż kobiety, a średni wiek chorych na Parkinsona to 58 lat, ale zdarzają się też przypadki zachorowań nawet przed 40 rokiem życia.

Objawy

• zauważalne jest spowolnienie ruchowe lub nawet kłopoty z poruszaniem się,
• kłopoty z utrzymaniem równowagi
• zaburzenia mowy przejawiające się lekkim mamrotaniem powodującym trudności w zrozumieniu co dana, chora osoba mówi,
• częstym objawem jest też drżenie palców u rąk.
• ponadto chory na Parkinsona może mieć coraz mniej energii, miewać kłopoty z zasypianiem lub czuć się ogólnie osłabiony.

• zalecane są również zabiegi fizykoterapeutyczne,
• masaże i kąpiele.

Celem leczenia jest przede wszystkim poprawienie jakości życia chorego poprzez zmniejszenie rozwoju przypadłości.

Profilaktyka

Jednak każde kolejne odkrycia naukowe donoszą o nowych czynnikach mogących zmniejszyć ryzyko wystąpienia choroby. Należą do nich między innymi: ćwiczenia fizyczne, które zapobiegają również osteoporozie, używanie powszechnych środków przeciwbólowych (aspiryna), dieta bogata w tłuszcze nienasycone oraz picie kawy (kofeina).
